Year 6 SEND Transition
Waseley SEND and Pastoral staff have been working with our primary schools to understand more about each Year 6 learner starting at Waseley Hills High School. We have also had the privilege to meet some of our Year 6 SEND learners, with their families to understand more about our young learners and to plan strategies of support, ready for September. Many of our Year 6 SEND and Vulnerable learners have been invited to our Additional Transitions mornings and full days to tour around Waseley Hills High School, meet our staff, visit the Learning Support Centre, Sensory Room, MAB and the Hub. They will also learn about the processes in school. We have planned many team-building skills to support with making and maintaining friendships, but also for our learners to ask questions or go through their worries, which we will be able to support with. We have arranged many sports activities, creativity activities, in addition to Literacy activities - where Ms Johnson will be supporting students with reading books and understanding the importance of reading for their academic development and progress. Ms McLeod will also have interventions with our SEND and Vulnerable learners on the 30th June to go through journey of different emotions and support available for management of these emotions. Our sixth formers and current SEND learners will also speak to our Year 6 to go through their journey at Waseley and what worked for them - this should help assist with peer-buddying, but also for Year 6 to be positive with the Waseley environment. We look forward to seeing our leaners in the next couple of Mondays, followed by 30th June, 1st July and 2nd July.
